This summer, we have launched the ‘£200k for 200 years’ campaign – the church was built in the 1830s, and we are planning to celebrate its bicentenary by repairing the stonework and improving the lighting and heating, but also by telling the stories and memories that have shaped our community and the history of the church of St Peter-in-the-Wood and Appleshaw and surrounding area. Lots of events, starting with our Daffodil Talk on Monday 14 September, will focus on the diverse heritage of the village and its surroundings.
In Spring 2027, we are planning the renovation works of the tower. The focus of the current fundraising campaign is to ensure that we can successfully complete this.
We are excited to announce that to date, we have raised £65,000 in restricted funds; this is largely thanks to the extraordinary generosity of the residents of Appleshaw and surroundings, as well as a grant of £15,000 from the HIHCT (Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust), which raises its funds principally through Ride and Stride (which will take place on 12 September this year). We are applying for further grants and funds and will keep you updated.
